Fresh Fruit Bowl

Seasonal favorites help you customize your Fresh Fruit Bowl throughout the year!

There’s rarely a day that you won’t find some form of a fresh fruit bowl in my refrigerator. I live for fruit, especially blueberries. It’s surprising that my skin has not turned blue from all the blueberries I eat. You will likely find me blueberry picking at a local organic blueberry farm from the end of March through mid-May.

Blueberries, kiwis, strawberries, and pineapple are staples in my fruit bowls. Sometimes I include mangoes, but they are not always available at my local grocery or farmers market. One of the great things about this recipe is how versatile it is—you can add bananas, peaches, or whatever’s in season.

Save time by cutting your fruit in advance and storing each in its own zipper bag or airtight container. When you’re ready to serve your fruit, combine it in a big bowl and enjoy. Mixed fruit is also a great addition to lunch boxes or as an after-school snack. I like to include it with chunks of meat and cheese, nuts, and crackers.

How to make your fruit bowl look beautiful

Making a fruit bowl for yourself is all about taste. But when serving guests, a little extra effort in presentation goes a long way. Here are some simple tips for a stunning and inviting fruit bowl: First, use a variety of fruits with different colors for natural visual appeal. Next, cut all the fruit into similar, bite-sized pieces. This not only looks neater but also makes it easy for guests to eat without needing a knife or fork. Slice kiwis into thicker rounds or chunks so they hold their shape and don’t turn mushy. Don’t worry about making each piece perfect, but aim for a consistent look overall. For a more elegant look, layer the fruit in the bowl by color or type. For a casual gathering, gently toss everything together. Garnish with a few whole berries, a sprig of mint, or a sprinkle of citrus zest for extra flair.

How do I store leftovers?

Cut fruits are best stored separately to preserve their individual textures and flavors. But leftovers from this mixed fruit bowl can still be enjoyed for 3 to 5 days, depending on the ripeness and types of fruit you use. Refrigerate them in an airtight container within 2 hours of preparing them. You will likely need to drain off excess juice that accumulates at the bottom of the container, and give the fruit a gentle stir to redistribute before serving. I don’t recommend freezing your fruit bowl, as freezing will make most fresh fruits soft and watery when thawed.

Serving suggestions

A fresh fruit bowl is perfect for any picnic, barbecue, or buffet table. It makes a colorful statement among platters of Air-Fryer Chicken Skewers, this Avocado Deviled Eggs Recipe, and Marinated Chicken Wings. Add this Crab Pasta Salad Recipe, some Bacon-Wrapped Pickles, and a plate of Buckeye Brownies and enjoy the feast!
