4th of July Fruit Pizza

Show off your patriotic pride with this 4th of July Fruit Pizza, which tastes as good as it looks!

We’ve all seen them at BBQs and picnics—those patriotic treats that look so festive and irresistible on the dessert table. There are many ways to show off your star-spangled spirit with a red, white, and blue dessert, whether it’s a traditional flag cake, an all-American pie, or a patriotic pizza, like this one. The best part? It doesn’t have to take a lot of effort to make a Pinterest-worthy dessert.

My favorite hack is to use store-bought ingredients to save time, and then decorate the dish with a dazzling design. For this dessert pizza, my shortcut is to use pre-made sugar cookie dough. You can find it in the refrigerated section of your grocery store, and it makes this dish a breeze to whip up. All you have to do is flatten and bake the dough, frost it, and then decorate it with fresh fruit. It’s sweet and refreshing and oh-so-pretty!

Whether you make it for Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, or any other day, you will surely get oohs and aahs from grateful diners. No one needs to know how quick and easy it was to make. That can be our little secret!

Is This 4th Of July Fruit Pizza Healthy?

This 4th of July fruit pizza does have some nutritional value, thanks to the hefty amount of fresh fruit it contains. It is bursting with ripe strawberries, blueberries, and delicious banana slices. However, the sugar quantity is quite high, and it also contains cream cheese and butter, both of which are high in fat. You can cut down on some of the fat by using fat-free or low-fat cream cheese, though the dish won’t be quite as rich. This pizza can also be made gluten-free by using a gluten-free sugar cookie dough for the base. You can also switch to a plant-based cream cheese and butter and a dairy-free sugar cookie dough to make it dairy-free.

Other Tasty Toppings To Try

Dessert pizzas are so much fun to make, and a great way to get the kids involved, especially with spreading the frosting and arranging the fruit. However, if you want to go with toppings other than fruit, you can have those little hands place marshmallows in a row (watch that they don’t eat more than they use). Vanilla wafers and animal cookies can also replace the bananas for a fun surprise.

Mini candies, especially little chocolate kisses, can replace the berries. Cookie crumbs, sprinkles, nuts, colorful cereal, and different colors and flavors of icing can also be used. You can even swap out the sugar cookie base for a brownie or chocolate chip cookie base. The sky’s the limit, so use your imagination and go wild!

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Refrigerate leftovers (if there are any) in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Slice the fruit pizza before refrigerating to make eating leftovers easier. The crust will begin to soften after the second day, but it will still taste good. It can be eaten chilled or at room temperature. I don’t recommend freezing, as the fruit will turn mushy.

Can I Make This With Other Fruits?

While red, white, and blue bring a patriotic feel, you can make a fruit pizza with anything you like. Mangoes, kiwis, papaya, and pineapple are ideal for a tropical theme. Go the citrus route by alternating slices of oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit slices. I like to dust the top with powdered sugar to help sweeten the grapefruit. When peaches and nectarines are in season, try alternating them with various berries for a fun and colorful pizza.

Is It Better To Use Pre-Made Cookie Dough From A Mix Or Tube?

I find that using the tube cookie dough is the easiest and fastest way to prepare this dessert. Of course, if you have a mix that you like, and you have the extra time, go ahead and use it. You can even make it from scratch, if you’d like. No matter what method you choose, the pizza slices will disappear like magic.

Serving Suggestions

The 4th of July calls for celebrations, and you often find families and friends hanging out at the beach, parks, or backyards. BBQs and picnics reign supreme, where this fruit pizza is often seen. Start your spread with appetizers like Bacon-Wrapped Pickles, Prosciutto And Melon, and Crock-Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip. Main course options include Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork Chops, and Grilled London Broil. Some delicious sides are Grilled Squash, Hawaiian Macaroni Salad, and Baked Beans.
