Big Mac Tacos

Find out how to transform one of the most popular fast-food burgers into a one-of-a-kind taco.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a huge fan of tacos. That means I’ve experimented with every different type of taco I could think up, and believe me, there are a lot of varieties! However, until I saw this recipe, it had never occurred to me to turn a famous fast-food burger like the Big Mac into a taco. It was one of the craziest culinary twists of my life! I’m glad I discovered this recipe and can now share it with others, because I’ve never had a taco—or a burger, for that matter—quite like a Big Mac taco.

Obviously, all of the ingredients of a typical Big Mac are in this taco. There’s the beef, cheese, pickles, onions, and even homemade Big Mac sauce. Beyond that, the way you prepare the Big Mac taco is different—in a good way—from any other type of taco I’ve ever had. The tortilla becomes an integral part of the cooking process, rather than being cooked separately from the beef and other ingredients. This helps ensure that all the different elements of a Big Mac come together to create a truly unique experience.

Are Big Mac Tacos Healthy?

Similar to a real Big Mac, you’re probably not eating these tacos as part of a restrictive diet. However, they do contain protein from the ground beef, fiber from the lettuce, and vitamins and minerals from the onions and pickles. The beef, cheese, and special sauce add saturated fat, calories, and sodium. That said, you can use a leaner meat, such as ground turkey, or a low-fat mayonnaise, or even try to include more vegetables to help improve the nutritional value.

Keep Everything Thin And Even

Press raw ground beef gently into the tortillas to form a uniform and even layer, then add the tortilla to the pan beef-side down. This will help cook the beef quickly and efficiently before flipping the tortilla. Once you flip it, top it with cheese immediately. You are free to use any type of cheese you prefer; cheddar can work just as well as American cheese, although I’ve found that Colby Jack melts more quickly, which helps you finish cooking sooner.

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Leftovers of any cooked beef, tortillas, and cheese can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. However, to keep things crisp and fresh, add lettuce, onion, and pickles only after reheating.

Can I Prep This Ahead?

While the meat and tortillas are best put together just before cooking, you can prepare the Big Mac sauce a day or more in advance, allowing the flavors to meld together. Keep refrigerated until it’s time to make your tacos.

Can I Add Extra Vegetables?

If there is room in the tortilla, feel free to add extra veggies such as red onion, tomatoes, or avocado.

Serving Suggestions

While it usually doesn’t make sense to have fries with tacos, since these are Big Mac tacos, it might be appropriate to make Homemade French Fries. In fact, you may want to replicate the recipe for McDonald’s French Fries, or opt for Air-Fryer Sweet Potato Fries instead. Of course, for a more traditional taco side dish, you may enjoy Rice Cooker Mexican Rice or Corn Salad.
