Air-Fryer Bread

Take your bread-making skills to the next level with this golden, fluffy loaf.

As one of the greatest modern inventions, the air fryer can churn out all kinds of yummy treats, both savory and sweet. If you like to bake, then you might just love air frying, because it often cooks food quicker and leaves behind less mess. It’s a busy mom’s dream!

My mom recently got an air fryer in her kitchen, and it works like a charm. I’m still getting used to it, but we’ve been trying both tasty baked goods and simple dinners. No matter which kind of food we craft, it always turns out satisfying in little to no time.

Just when I thought I knew all the benefits of an air fryer, I discovered this recipe. Air fryer bread is just like oven-baked bread, except it takes less time to cook. The result is a perfectly golden brown loaf that’s crisp on the outside, but fluffy and moist on the inside. Slice it as thin or as thick as you’d like, and then serve it as a simple side at dinner or make sandwiches for lunch. Or if you want a classic, bold brunch, use this bread when making French toast. You’d be surprised by how many different ways air-fryer bread can dazzle you at the dining table.

What makes the dough rise?

Like any other bread, this one needs yeast so that it will rise in the proofing process and become fluffy when cooked. Yeast works by consuming sugar and producing carbon dioxide air bubbles that fill up the bread and make it expand. This process of fermentation is what makes beverages like beer bubbly, too. Yeast also adds a rich, earthy flavor that’s distinctive to bread and many alcoholic drinks.

How do I store leftovers?

Once the air-fryer bread has cooled to room temperature, cover the loaf tightly in plastic wrap and keep it somewhere dry and cool. It will last 3-4 days like that, but if you want longer storage, up to a week, store it in the fridge. For even longer storage, freeze it for up to 3 months, and then thaw in the fridge for 24 hours before serving.

Serving suggestions

Enjoy a classic snack or side by topping a slice of air-fryer bread with Homemade Butter, Garlic Butter, or a drizzle of Bread Dipping Oil. But if you want more pizzazz in your spread, try Beet Hummus or Avocado Dip. When it comes to sandwiches, you can truly try any kind, but my favorites are the Vegetarian Breakfast Sandwich and Egg Salad With Pickles.

Ingredients

3 cups white bread flour1 1/2 teaspoons sugar1 1/4 teaspoons salt2 1/4 teaspoons instant dry yeast1 1/2 cups warm water1/4 cup olive oil

Instructions

Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a mixing bowl.
Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Stir until a sticky dough forms. If the dough is too wet, add a little more flour.
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 1 to 2 hours until it doubles in size.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently punch it down and shape it into a ball. Place it in a lightly greased 7-inch springform pan or on parchment paper, then let it rise for another 15 minutes.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes. If using a pan, keep the dough inside; if not, transfer the dough onto a parchment-lined basket.
Cook at 400°F for 10 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 350°F and air fry for an additional 20 minutes. The bread is done when its crust is golden and it sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove the bread from the air fryer and place it on a cooling rack. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
